When did you begin competing in Field Trials?
About 20 years ago. Due to career demands, pursuit of other
competitive activities and the devasting loss of a young field dog, I
mostly dabbled in training and trialing. Having retired 2 years ago, and
with the support of my husband Wayne, the Jones' and Marcy and
Kenny, I have found a renewed enthusiasm for the sport.
What made you decide to compete in Field Trials?
Watching my husband with his first field trial dog 20 years ago. It looked
fun and easy. Turns out it is fun and addicting. But not it is not easy.
Who are your training partners at home?
Dagger's first training buddies were my husband, Wayne and my good friend/mentor,
Barb Howard, who threw countless marks until we met up with our winter training group
in Florida. Those folks would be Kelley Hall, John Broucek, David Knight, David Goff,
Karen Stewart, and Frank and Rita Jones. In April Dagger joined Marcy Wright and
Kenny Trott's truck full time where he has found his tribe:)
What is the origin of your dog’s name?
While sipping on Horse Soldier bourbon with Frank, Rita and Wayne and
talking about the movie 12 Strong, we decided Seaside's Horse Soldier would
be an awesome name. I emailed American Distillery, the makers of Horse
Soldier, for help with a call name. I got an email back from Bob Pennington
and John Koko, 2 retired Special Ops soldiers and part of the 12 Strong.
Being huge dog lovers, they enthusiastically helped me with call name ideas.
Their incredible mission was Task Force Dagger and it became his call name.
To all who have served and are serving, Wayne, myself and Dagger thank
you.
Tell us an interesting story about your dog.
I really can't top the story of how he got his name. At least not yet:)
