When did you begin competing in Field Trials?
2018

What made you decide to compete in Field Trials?
I finally had the time, or maybe made the time to do it. Also I had a dog that showed a lot of potential.

Who are your training partners at home?
Ron Ainley, Bob West, Dave Robertson, Bobby Raasch, Ed Staili, Ted Lewin, many others in Iowa, Wisconsin and places near and far when we congregate in North Texas.

What is the origin of your dog’s name?
Out of respect for the breeders, the unofficial kennel name “Meadow Woods.” “Just” after her mama. “Lil” after her mama’s mama, “FC-AFC Lil Whiskey Girl” and “Sweeter” from her sire.

Tell us an interesting story about your dog.
I was hesitant to enter her in a Derby early last spring in Texas when she was just over 11 months old. She could do the work but I was concerned about line manners, the event atmosphere and the fact that we would arrive in TX just a couple days before the event. I decided to ask to run as test dog and we did for every series. She stepped on every mark and would have won decisively. She was given an honorary “Test Dog JAM” ribbon. Most of the time green ribbons are a little disappointing but that one is pretty special. The next day she ran as test dog in the Q on the land blind, and lined it. We quit on a high note and went elsewhere to train.

You and your dog have survived nine series of the National Derby Championship. You are about to come to the line for the 10th series with a chance to be crowned the 2022 National Derby Champion. What song and artist would you want to hear playing as the two of you come to the line?
No song, just a big round of applause for Bob Hayden. Our sport has never seen a more generous individual!
