When did you begin competing in Field Trials?
2016

What made you decide to compete in Field Trials?
I ran my HRCH Master Hunter female, Roux’s Precious Jewel, “RouxB” in our club’s Owner/Handler Qualifying, her first field trial, and we placed 4th. We had played the hunt test game and I decided I’d try our hand at trials. I was hooked after! I went on to get her Qualified All-Age and ran my first Amateur with her in Bonham, TX.

Who are your training partners at home?
I’m fortunate to have several amateurs in my area that I train with.

What is the origin of your dog’s name?
I’ve always loved the name, Roman. I think it carries a “strong” persona and invokes strength. I have to give credit to my dear friend, Sherri Rains, for the name, though, she called me one day and said, “I got it!” and I agreed :-)

Tell us an interesting story about your dog.
Roman is out of my male, GMPR HRCH Watermark’s Lean Persueder MH21, MAI 2018, “Suede,” endearingly referred to as, The BYD. Suede’s been bred to multiple females throughout his hunt test career and I’ve never kept a puppy. Michael Echelberry came to me a couple years ago with interest in breeding Suede to their female, JJ. Suede was getting older and I really liked the pairing, so instead of the stud fee I chose first pick black male. I’m extremely happy I decided to keep the pup and even more so because my beloved Suede turned 11 in February and he’s not in the best of health. I have my Suede son and I couldn’t be happier.

You and your dog have survived nine series of the National Derby Championship. You are about to come to the line for the 10th series with a chance to be crowned the 2022 National Derby Champion. What song and artist would you want to hear playing as the two of you come to the line?
“Good Feeling” by Flo Rida.

Note: I have to give credit to pro handler, Christian Alt, who has trained Roman. I ran him in his first trial and we got a 3rd, but Christian has had the reins since. He’ll be taking him to the line and we couldn’t be more thrilled.
