Welcome Statement
We have now have 62 entries, which is the largest in the National Derby history!
Retrieving Freedom presentation with Bobby Hayden (Bob Haydens' son) and John Drack who is the director of the local Retrieving Freedom facility.
Bobby welcomed everyone on behalf of his family and stressed his father's love of dogs. Mr. Drack took the podium and explained what these dogs are trained to do. Their primary function is for military PTSD victims, and also used for autistic children. These dogs are free to veterans and to the families of these children. They have raffles and various ways of earning money and will be giving free tours of the local facility this Thursday and Friday afternoon.

Katie Landry and her son were presented with a weather vane in honor of Frank, after Alex Washburn introduced them. In addition, Don Fregelette presented a bouquet of flowers to Katie from the National Derby Club
Selection of starting dog number – Russ Hardy
Katie Landry (widow of Frank Landry) was asked to draw the starting dog #. She pulled out
rubber duck #48. The rotation for the first 4 series will be 48, 1, 16 and 31.
Excellent grounds for the tests, thanks go to Bob Hayden there are dogs from the West Coast, East Coast, Canada and the Far South in attendance!
- First no-bird, go back 5 and run 6th. 2nd no-bird, go back 5 and run 6th. 3rd no-bird you go to the end.
- First Series will be a land double using rooster pheasants
- No collars allowed, not even flea collars
- Judges asked handlers to make a definite hand signal when signaling for birds
- Your numbered bib is your passport to the line
- There will be a walk-up song for each dog for 30 seconds – handlers must let us know the song of their choice for the 1st and 10th series.
- 1st 20 handlers will get 3 minutes to view the test, the next 20 handlers will get 3 minutes and the final 23 handlers will get 3 minutes to view the line, then the gallery.
- The gallery will have an excellent view if they remain quiet!
- 30 competing dogs then 1st gun change, view for remaining contestants.
- Note to competitors to get their photo taken when you leave the line of the 1st Series.
- No more draws for training grounds effective tonight, it will be first come, first served.
- Monday morning 1st day of the trial schedule:
- Anthem at 7:30 am
- Test Dogs run 7:45 am
- Target Start time 8:00 am
